I'm thinking a non-RVSM 501 is about a 500nm IFR plane, no?

I would guess 30% more fuel and 30% less range.

I'll chime in and agree with Allen. If you start flying the legacy Citations low, be prepared for some very high fuel burns. These really aren't efficient birds with the old engines to begin with. Flying them low is definitely harder on the wallet.
I always think of a jet as being for going high, fast, and far with a lot of folks to be efficient. When not doing that, I take the King Air.

I have a client who recently went to SimCom and Flight Safety... he was very disappointed in SimCom and raved about Flight Safety. He said Flight Safety was well worth the extra money.

Hi Allen,

Just sent you a PM. Appreciate your help.

There is also CAE-Simuflite in New Jersey and Loft in San Diego. I've heard very good things about both.

i'm in day 7 at LOFT on 10 day course. Two sim sessions down. So far, so good. No complaints. Good staff, good sim. The compression is a little higher than FSI or SIMCOM, but its very manageable. Their sim is a CJ1 with PL-21, UNS, and garmins.

Funny you should mention this Chip, last time I went (3 years ago for the KA), it didn't go well either. They gave us an instructor that taught PC-12 and didn't know anything about the KA. But they were good about offering to fix it and this time they said I get one of their best guys.

I had that at SimCom here in Grapevine when SimCom purchased a local sim operator several years ago. The instructor didn't know some basic C90 stuff. Had jet time and flew a 200 some time ago. When I hit DA on an ILS approach she wondered why I started a go-around. She was looking at the localizer approach that had time or DME distance at an MDA and was expecting me to level out and look. Lots of sim issues; 16 written up when we started and we added to the list. I called Orlando and let them know; they gave me additional time with one of their good folks for no charge. I always ask with who I will train now. The sales folks give you the all our instructors are good stuff and I just don't accept it. I ask for one or two folks now that I've gone several times.
You're paying a lot to attend these places. You should expect their A team at a SimCom or Flight Safety. I want to soak up all I can; not to be worrying about how good the instructor is. It's a mutual effort.

Flew the sim today at LOFT at Palomar for my 525s checkride. Great day! Now I just need to find a plane to fly.
