Yes, and that's probably what I am going to do even if it's not the logical decision.

I think this has been a great thread. Regardless of the amount of money one can spend on an airplane or whether one purchases a new plane or a 50 year old one compromises are required! Finding the best plane (for there are rarely perfect ones) for most of your use is a challenging process. But it's a lot of fun too.

One more thing to check. I was reading the gross weight thread and the scary take off thread. I know a lot of the runways in Europe are much shorter, so before you consider the 4000 or 4100 MTOW increases on the Bonanza, look carefully at runway and climb requirements. Based on previous posts, I am fairly sure a TAT G36 at normal max weight of 3600 is very competitive with the Cirrus SR22T for runway requirements. But when you add another 400-500lbs? :shrug:

Jean-Michel,

You are right on point. If your missions involve 2 with glib/skis and luggage or 3 with luggage, then the g5 may have the edge. If, however, like me, you require more utility out of a $600-750k investment, then the the g36tn Bo with tks and tips is the answer.

Not a problem Jean-Michel. I certainly didn't think you were questioning anything other than my comment about the TAT TN SR22 endurance. Obviously if you want to carry 4 people plus bags (in any airplane), then the range profile is going to change (in some cases significantly).

For what it is worth, the real world useful load of a TAT TN G36 with tip tanks and TKS is about 1210 pounds (taken from SN E-3708, which I bought for a client). According to the Cirrus website, the useful load of the SR22T with TKS is 1248 pounds (although the real world number may be slightly lower). Given that, the two airplanes will have about the same range with 4 people and bags as the speeds and fuel burns are comparable. Obviously the G36 has a larger passenger cabin than the SR22T but the G36 doesn't have a parachute nor will it be FIKI in that configuration (each has its pro's and con's of course and like everything in this business, there are trade offs and compromises).

This was the point I was trying to make about 10 pages ago and which you did much more succinctly. When I considered my experience with my A36TN at 4000 lbs in time to climb and then fuel burn at equivalent airspeeds I find range at these weights, for similarly equipped airplanes about a wash.

I just skimmed the thread and didn't see a reply about no power on stalls in an SR22. People used to do them but instructors stopped because the deck angle is so high. I suspect the same is true in a Bo. I don't know how anyone could do a real world takeoff stall in a correctly loaded SR22. To stall at full power you are on your back and all you see is sky. It freaked me out the first time I did one. The plane handled fine.

Thanks Tony. I was late to the party so I'm sorry I didn't jump in sooner :D

Many on here don't want to hear it but the G5 SR22 leveled the playing field in some ways (but not in others). It is, without question, a tough decision for those buyers fortunate enough to be in the position to choose between the two as it is a compromise either way (and both are outstanding airplanes).

Paul,

It has been awhile since I have truly "instructed" in an SR22 but if I recall, I never did full power stalls in the SR22 (or Bonanza for that matter). My employer, at the time, required that we limit the max amount of power in the SR22 to 65% for a power on stall and frankly, that was enough for that maneuver. As you said, full power would be a very aggressive maneuver for most people.

Easier when near the aft CG limit to do it. Kinda fun actually, and very benign stall if you approach gradually. Or better yet, freak out the DE by doing it fast. When pulling up slowly you get the nice chirp from the stall horn, nose drops a little, repeat. When pulling up fast you can get a really nice beeeep that freaks out a lot of people. Kinda fun.

I want to thanks all of you for the invaluable advices and ''real life'' informations you gave me during this, long, discussion.

I have learned a lot.

a few, very serious and competent people, suggested me to cool down a bit and take sometime before buying.

That was a very sensible advice. But I am not going to follow it.

I am going to buy a plane and sign a contract within the next weeks. I will keep you posted, obviously.
