To much cam overlap in that engine. Still running rough even at the higher rpm. And when will they learn that those six blades do nothing but slow that plane down. I think Strega has the proven formula for success.

Tim,
I can't speak to the technical aspects of those big engines, but I just started reading up and following the Reno Air Races this year. The history is awesome, the characters behind the unlimited planes are worthy of many hours of entertainment, reading and watching videos.
I just bought my Bonanza from one of em, the owner of Dawn's Early Light. Really great stuff.

Username Protected wrote: Voodoo beat Strega this year right? Strega is legend I will agree. Yes Voodoo beat Strega. However, Voodoo and Dago Red are carbin copies of Strega. Strega figured out the formula for success regarding reliability and speed. That was Voodoo 1st gold. Strega has seven. And I would dare to say that if the Steve Hinton Jr would have been in Strega this year the results may have been reversed.

Can you explain? I do not following the racing
Camshaft "overlap" is a term that describes how long, in degrees of crankshaft rotation, the intake and exhaust valves are simultaneously open thus giving the engine the rough idle sound you hear. It also makes the engine harder to start. If you have ever been to the drag races you'll notice that the pro stocks and even some super stocks are idling at 1500 to 2000 RPM. That roughness should disappear once the RPMs get into the power range of the cam.

Tim[/quote] I am surprised that you don't follow some form of racing. Especially owning an Aerostar. A very technical design.
