Beautiful Cub! Please make sure that you wiring for the electronic ignition is top notch. I pick up airplane crashes for a living and dual electronic ignition has been the cause of several crashes recently. I don't recall the ignition units themselves failing, it has almost exclusively been a problem with the electrical connections. I have seen the wires pull loose from crimps, automotive style connectors come loose, and one that tried to fly with a dead battery.

Thank you and I appreciate the input on the ignition. I will definitely put extra focus on the wiring.

I feel like Ian and his solid advice on ignition wiring, might've been there in spirit, late one night in the 1990s when my old car quit.

I’d swapped the points ignition with an electronic one a couple years prior, and “younger me” wasn’t always mechanically conscientious. I’d done a half-***** job grounding the transistor box just anywhere. The memory/mental image of that frayed wire just happened to pop into my head a few moments after the engine went silent.

At least it makes for a funny story when you’re in a car, coasting into the nearest parking lot on campus, and the situation thrusts you into a position of temporary genius status because you confidently popped the hood and quickly got the car running again, in the dark and in the rain and with minimal tools at hand- much to the admiration of your friends (who were probably just being kind and knew better).

Uhhhh let’s stick with the term “genius,” no matter how far it’s stretching the truth.

Far better for me to learn that lesson on four wheels than two wings.

Thank you!

Paul Muhle in Columbus Nebraska. He is like the Michelangelo of fabric and paint.
