I spend a chunk of my career working sales contracts for large US corporates.

These are "Most favored nation" (MFN) clauses and pretty common for government and large commercial customers. The language is meant to ensure the customer is getting the lowest purchase price.

There are lots of means to circumnavigate this language like changing part numbers or selling bundles combined with other products or services to avoid a "like for like" characterization and get trapped by the clause.

From a litigation standpoint it's not uncommon for a court to side with a local company against a foreign company determining a similar product is the same as the items described in the contract's MFN clause.
