I see pics of Cirrus people. Lots of them wear their lapbelts around their chest. WTF...

The Cirrus seat belt design is not the greatest, and I was uncomfortable when flying in one. It’s a four point belt with a lap portion that continually loosens, and is pulled upwards by the shoulder belts. I was *constantly* having to cinch down the lap belt. Sigh….

It's one of those designs that is superior in concept, and horrible to use. The average person will not understand how to set the belts correctly and that results in what you see; an arrangement that will cause injury in a forward crash.

And this is why I much prefer Alpha shoulder harnesses to BAS. Google "seatbelt submarining" for some graphic graphics.

The seatbelts in the Cirrus are probably one of the less attractive features of the aircraft. Very uncomfortable, and very hard to adjust especially if you have kids in the back. I prefer automative style belts with inertial reels. I dislike all the 4 point and 5 point harnesses though, unless I am doing aerobatics.

It’s like every movie where they are wearing a rotating buckle 4 point, the buckle is always like in the middle of the chest, like how on earth does that make sense

Cirrus folks are not always the best when it comes to logic and mechanical sympathy

Long time ago I was in PSP, shop had two cirrus with the nose gear blown apart, and this is like a 10,000’ runway

I see lots of replies in this thread blaming the pilots for the seatbelt position, but they are just doing what they can to tolerate a seat belt design. It is only a safe restraint when it is so uncomfortable that after a minute you have to loosen it. The shoulder belt internal reels are too strong and pull the buckle up.

I bought a pair of seat belt adjuster clips to try to make it not pull up so hard but they weren't strong enough to stop the inertial reel from pulling.

I only flew the G5 with airbag shoulder belts, so maybe it is better in other models?
