My father flew a P5M for the Coast Guard.
(He also flew the HU-16 )
He had thousands of hours in big seaplanes.

My former business partner (died in 1991) had been a Navy test pilot, and flew the P6M quite a bit. He told me not long before he passed away "You know, the water is really hard at 160 knots!"

How long is the water takeoff distance when fully loaded? Would this be an effective fire fighting airplane? That was the first thought that crossed my mind.
