This is what my 185 has where the usual plastic strut-to-wing fairing is. It obviously needs to be replaced, but my question is, is this a real part or something some Canadian stuck on there in its bush days? The only part in the Parts Manual is the plastic one, $99 from MacFarlane, $1 million from Cessna. The plastic part has to be prepped and painted, so I’m interested in rubber. I know from past experience that talking to painters is dangerous. My last casual conversation with one cost just short of $20k! Attachment: 29EB039B-74C6-4A64-9A33-97ED86277596.jpeg

Real part. Cessna part numbers for the strut seals 0713018-1, 0713180-1, 0713181-1.

Some people run 180 / 185's with just the rubber gasket / seal in place , without the fairing, on the wing strut.
It is a good idea , either way to ensure that you have the rubber gasket / seal , on at least the R/H gear leg , and the lower R/H strut, at a minimum, as it helps prevent exhaust, from entering the cabin / underfloor area.

Buy three sets of each now before cessna changes the pricing. I learned that the hard way, my Wheel well plastic for my 210 went from $680 to over $3000 in a year. That was only one out of three pieces for me I'm scared to price the other ones right now.

Stuart, Free advice: Buy the McFarlane split fairing. https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/artic ... or-cessna/Allows you to remove it for inspection completely w/o having to disconnect the strut. About the best thing my painter suggested when we painted 2 years ago. Also, make sure you keep chafe tape on the strut where the fairing ends. If the fairing comes loose a bit in flight it can and will score the strut deeply enough to require replacement. Cessna limits on damage to a strut are pretty tight, not much of a score and you replace strut. Learned to my -$AMU distaste once. Frankly I suspect the McFarlane, if it loosens in flight might depart the plane - a much cheaper cure than a new strut! RAS

Go for the fairings. You may gain a knot or two from eliminating interference drag, and they look much better than the rubber seals. I attach a picture of mine; please ignore the other hardware on the strut.

No secret, Nathan... I apologize for the distraction to the thread. Just a small device in the early developmental stages with the FAA. Have a great weekend.

I don't know about the solo cup dispenser/cremation remains dispersion unit, but the airfoil shaped clamp is a work of art.

TN I analyzed that task about 80 ways from Sunday then gave up, landed the plane, rented a car and drove to the lake my father wanted his ashes in. I pretty sure I saved myself A LOT of vacuuming after reading other peoples horror stories.

John et al.: In respect to Stuart's original thread, I am starting a brief new thread on Brand X talk that may be of interest to the readership.
