I won't win either but will play. $5,200 for an electrical modulator--half the size of an i phone-for prop de-ice boots on a Cessna Corvalis. I actually said I would have complained had a zero been dropped. That's in the box, unshipped, untaxed, and uninstalled. But I have a third party story also. A non-structural metal piece for the nose gear of a Cardinal RG was quoted by Cessna at $27,000. I didn't even put these numbers into my native Canadian currency to play fair.

Beech wants something like $12-15,000 to make you one.
I'm pretty sure I could build one for a lot less even including the purchase of a brand new TIG welder and a decent hourly wage for the two months it would take me to become proficient with the welder. I suspect that price is at least partly intended to get you to do just that.

I suspect the real reason is to get them all parked, turn off the liability tail and free up warehouse space and staff for lucrative (in the eyes of some Textron bean counter) work.
Glad I fly a 182, lots of spare parts everywhere....

On the Mirage part, the sump drain should only... only be in the $270 range. If you are talking about the wing sump tank, it is actually a fuel cell, and while 12K sounds ridiculous, it is not a little piece of plastic but a complicated structure. Usually fails when someone pressurizes the fuel tank for some odd reason, like checking for leaks. Don't do that Are you a member of MMOPA? is your mechanic a PA46 specific mechanic? have you contracted the MMOPA maintenance hotline to inquire? and have you contacted the MMOPA ombudsman to confirm the pricing and seek help? If the answer to any of those is no, for heavens sake man, stop now before someone reams you a new one. A Mirage is more like a Citation than a bonanza. It is complex, and has to be inspected and maintained correctly. So many horror stories out there about people going down a path that never should have been started. Good luck.
