you would avoid Avidyne due to the integrated engine monitoring system and would want it replace with a JPI or something

Yes that is correct, solely because it could allow you a pathway to rip out the entire Avidyne system and put something else in like a G500 or whatever else comes down the line.

I was never trying to imply JPI or EI would have better needles or display more accurate values than Avidyne. My point was a pathway to untether the end user from the entire Avidyne Entegra suite. The problem to over come with the Entegra system should it become a boat anchor is the engine monitor and systems. This why I started spit wadding about a solution from JPI or EI. Apologize if that point was not clear from onset.

At present date should the Entegra become a boat anchor your only option is to install the G950 at $200k. If Avidyne brings the R9 to the Meridian, which they announced in 2009, my opinion could change. Similar arguments could be made for the G1000 as well but Garmin is a bigger company with more horsepower and things seem to happen a lot quicker for them than Avidyne. I'd hazard to say the NXI upgrade will happen for the G1000 equipped Meridians.

Just one man's observations and opinions, not trying to stir the pot or insult anyone.

No insult taken. But please read the prior post. Even the Meggit systems that have been upgraded to the G500 use the Meggitt DAU, as does the Avidyne. Without Piper support, the G1000 will also, by your definition, become a boat anchor effectively. As long as the product continues to be supported by a company that is likely to be in business for the long term, Avidyne or Garmin, I think people should feel perfectly OK with the Avidyne Meridian.

Somewhat same scenario in early Eclipse. If you lose the Avidyne panel you either find a used one or upgrade to the IFMS.

Flew in the Eclipse today. Great airplane; smooth and very quiet. A little tighter up front than I thought it would be but still comfortable. Flew KFRG to KMVY for lunch at 17k.
