During the run up the stall warning sounded continually, the lift indicator (stall warning switch) was found to be u/s and not repairable. The genuine Cessna replacement switch was quoted at $10,750.00. Thankfully we managed to find a used swith for around $1,000 Pre-restart 182? If so they went CRAZY with the older aircraft parts prices lately. Probably trying to force them to be retired or certainly totaled in an insurance incident. I guess that's one way to force people to buy new(er) aircraft.

Yep, $1500 for a temp gage. But, $500 for a digital with an STC. And, in reality, $500 for a temp gage is still robbery!

I don't know why Cessna (or any airframe mfg) does stuff like that. No one is going to buy a stall vane for $10K and it just serves to leave a bad taste in someone's mouth regarding Cessna and the brand in general.
You can also have them "overhauled" for about $1500. It's basically a brand new stall vane with the old data plate. Still a ripoff but no real choice.

Aircraft Spruce explained to me they have upped the costs on things as simple as stall horn reeds. Used to be able to get them for under a dollar. New Cessna price is close to $60.

Quote: The late John Frank (Cessna Pilots Assn. founder) once told our group at a type specific systems & maintenance class that Cessna basically charges the parts rental for time in the bin or on the shelf. The prices continue to increase. If so, those must be some old inventory stall reeds. If that's true Cessna needs to rethink their hiring practices and weed out whoever comes up with theories like that. As long as the OEM (in this case safeflight) will overhaul for a tenth the cost and there are new surplus parts out there their inventory will never, ever move.
