If the phone can pick up all these frequencies and towers it seems it should also be able to limit itself to only use certain frequencies. The phone must know what it's doing no?

When I turn off WIFI on my iPhone and go to the Map App it shows my location at the cell tower my phone is talking to. The phone seems to know what tower it's using.

In normal operation it only uses one frequecy code, ie it uses one X.
the problem is that 60 other towers also use X to talk to a DIFFERENT phone.

The issues isn't that your phone can't talk, its that your phone is making X unusable for other phones on other cell towers.

Then couldn't the cell service providers create a solution? Why don't they?

It seems great marketing if AT&T could advertise that their cell service will work on Delta without having to purchase GOGO Wireless.
