Tom,

what fuel flows did you see at 175kts?

It's great to see more twin Cessna operators embracing LOP ops. We have lagged behind significantly, probably largely due to the influence RAM has in the engine market and their voiced opposition to LOP operation of their engines. These planes run really well LOP. My data point with stock 310hp engines and American aviation intercoolers is to operate around 2400-2500 RPM, 34-36'MAP and 15.5-16.5GPH depending on OATs and keeping CHTs <380. Good for 195-200KTAS at typical altitudes of 16-18000. Rarely fly higher than that or my CHTs get harder to control.

I really liked the C340. My wife wasn't in love with it for some reason but I really developed a fondness for the bird. My limited experience was with a Ram III model that got 190kts at 18K ft on 40gph ROP with CHTs of roughly 400-410 on one engine. From an ownership perspective, that has very little appeal to me. Now in all fairness, it was a rental and needed some TLC, especially on the LH engine which ran much hotter than the RH engine (I had to run 3-4 gph more on the LH side to keep the temps under control).

Hearing you guys talk about 200kts on 32 gph and CHTs <380 is a much more attractive prospect.

That's 34gph high or low. Mine lumbers there all day long. The Cessna 340 is a GREAT design. If you want to fly it, or have the mission, it can't be beat. Turns heads on the ramp.
