Used shop air boosted by a strut pump on every plane i've owned. Never a problem. Some people are just looking for something to worry about.

Maybe N2 is better or maybe it's not. But one thing is for sure - a N2 tank, regulator, and a hose with a high pressure strut coupler is not an expensive setup. MAYBE you could spend $300 at the local welding supply and hose shop but most likely less. Exchanging your empty cylinder at the welding supply store is like $20 and in 15 years of owning a piston twin I went through all of 3 cylinders and I used it to fill my tires in addition to struts, gear blow down, and the hydraulic accumulator. So if N2 even saves you one small issue over the years it's paid for.
