And for the longest time I thought we had good Mexican food here in CA, but it doesn't stand a chance to the truly fantastic stuff I've had there! Hopefully I'll bump into you on the ramp somewhere there when the time comes.
I can confirm that. I just did my first border crossing to Ensenada and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Did not stay at an all inclusive resort like in the past. I was really surprised at how much i liked the "real" food. It is going to be difficult for me to have another US taco again. I know what a real Churro is supposed to taste like. Had some of the best seafood in a long while, and i live on the coast?! What?! The 19 to 1 forex from the restaurant was great, too. $1 breakfasts, beers, and tacos! ok, top shelf margaritas were $3. Helps to pay for avgas, or in Alex's case JetA.

Adam and Jae - If you're ever in my neck of the woods, let me know and I'll make sure you are taken care of. Ensenada is 1100 nm from where I'm at so it will be a trip in itself if you're coming from California. Ensenada, though, has fantastic cuisine - no Taco Hell there, I assure you. If you're in California, it is worth the short trip down just to treat yourself to some really good food and if possible, a tour of the wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe.
Imagine that - Mexican wine... Actually, winemaking in Mexico goes back to the 15th century, and 1700's in Baja. Places I would recommend are Las Nubes, Finca Altozano, Clos de Tres Cantos and Club Tengo Hambre (literally translated as the "I'm Hungry Club"). The Monte Xanic and L.A. Cetto wineries are also worth a visit. There is a Gringo Chef that is supposed to be really good, but I have not had a chance to visit - Drew Deckman at his Deckman's en el Mogor.

We start the Baja 1000 and NORRA 1000 in Ensenada. I cant tell you the name of the taco stand we hit, but its a must stop for us! Its a 1,400 mile race to Cabo, and we hit about 50 taco stands on the way down.
