Obviously, it’s 11 cu. ft.

Funny enough, after reading your post as well as the others, I started worrying about the duration.

So I checked the MH chart, and (mis)read it in MINUTES!!!!!

I wondered, “what the hell good are ANY of these systems??” And, “What if I bought a larger tank?”

So I called MH to have the chat, and finally realized (thanks to the MH rep) that the duration is in HOURS!!! :bang: :beechslap:

I frequently make my way up to 13,999’ without supplemental oxygen (NEVER exceeding 30 minutes above 12,500’) - usually for weather avoidance, but sometimes to take advantage of winds. I use a pulse oxymeter usually above about 11,000’ or so.

This little system should benefit me in terms of alertness, trip fatigue, and the ability to venture above 14,000’ when needed.

I’m thinking that 7 hours duration at 18,000’ should be just fine for this tiny bottle. :D

If not, a bigger aluminum bottle is pretty cheap.

I wear a pulse oximeter anytime I go above 9,000 and you can actually see my O2 sats decline off 98% or so down into the 91-92% about 10,000 and climbing.

I'm about 10 pounds overweight at 180 and 5' 11" and still run a 5k every week but next time you're up at 10,0, try it on and see what your sats are. I think the results might surprise you.

Very few people unless they've lived their whole lives above 5k elevation or are regular triathletes can hang out without their sats coming down above 10,0 for more than a few minutes.

Just a thought. Already lost one of our pilots last year to that off the coast of LA.

I bought an O2 system for my recent trip west. Spent lots of time between 9-11k. Many hours. In those ranges my sat would drop from 97ish to 92. Not a huge drop but the 02 would immediately put it back in the high 90’s.

I’m 40 and in good shape. Lived my entire life below 500 MSL.

Just some mild walking at 6k+ left this guy gassed!

I am a FIRM believer in the O2D2 boxes but I have my doubts that 11cu ft will last 7 hours at 18,000’ in fact, I’ll go ahead and say it won’t. I think you did good and it should work great, maybe just learn the workings of it before you head out on a long trip and “have” to fly high. Sooooo much better than a oxy-saver mustache!
I can confirm with the O2D2 O2 sats are fine in the low 20’s with a basic cannula. Also very recently confirmed a double dose of O2D2 will keep sats at 98% at 25,000’ all with a safety pilot in the other seat of course.

Edit: Looking at that chart some more. Does it actually say 12.9 hours at 10,000’ with an oxymizer cannula for this size tank or am I reading it wrong ? Anyone that has used oxygen knows better. In fact, I’m suspect of all those numbers for all sizes and delivery methods !100mb internet anyone ? What speeds did you really get ? :woot:
