Probably to avoid having to wear a mask.

Tony: I won’t ever plan, or attempt long runs at high altitude (for my plane). Getting over some cumulus build ups, icing layers, or catching some kicking tail winds for a couple of hours would be the goal. My plane climbs quite smartly up to 13,999’, and on a number of occasions I’ve been disappointed at my inability to reach the smoother air, clear air, or tailwinds available above that altitude due to lack of supplemental oxygen. A couple of hours above 14,000’ should meet any of my anticipated needs, I’d imagine. And of course, I’ll take baby steps until I’ve figured out the system’s limitations. jh

I'm about 10 pounds overweight at 180 and 5' 11" and still run a 5k every week but next time you're up at 10,0, try it on and see what your sats are. I think the results might surprise you. Very few people unless they've lived their whole lives above 5k elevation or are regular triathletes can hang out without their sats coming down above 10,0 for more than a few minutes. Just a thought. Already lost one of our pilots last year to that off the coast of LA. Thanks, Rich. Yep, as stated above, I do use a pulse oxymeter (normally above 11,000’ or so. But also for longer durations (or at night) above 10,000’. I’ve become pretty familiar with my saturation levels as well as my symptoms when sats drop off. I’m not cavalier about hypoxia at all. The O2 will be a tool in my toolbox to enhance safety, and give me options. jh

Good deal, I figured so, but always better to ask. Some people have never checked at that altitude and I'd hate to lose someone else. :(

Curiosity. I figured the question would be why are you rolling the airplane at 25,000'

I would believe the numbers on O2D2 system. Take passengers in the back that are just in a continuous flow cannula and you’ll see the tank go a lot quicker. I couldn’t remember the last time I filled mine but I’ve had a lot of use on it.

I love my MH system and use it regularly at altitudes up to 18k - it takes awhile to get from 16 to 18k with a na 550 in an A36! For me its wx avoidance, winds and fuel management. It is my understanding that if you go above 18, you need a mask. MH makes a serious mask with mic built in. I would like to get one at some point. At night, I wear the cannula regardless of altitude. It supposedly helps your eye sight. I figure it can’t hurt. John, Louis fills bottles for $30. At bedford, it is 3x that price!

Thanks for the tip, Kevin!!! Quick note on Tim Rose: Prompt shipping, beautifully packed, and exactly as described. He shipped it BT style!!! Thanks, Tim!! I bought a couple of other items from Tim as well. So I'd say "Buy with confidence from Tim. He's a good guy." jh
