Is this FIKI legal without the hot plate? How did that happen?
Matt Definitely not FIKI. Previous owner replaced the windshield and probably didn't want to spend the $10K on a new hot plate is my guess. It could be added back. I think I would take no hot plate. It's ugly, blocks visibility, most are in bad shape and it's not needed. The alcohol works fine.

I’m the previous owner of VV. She was a great airplane to us and our family. Mike & Jay took it in on trade for a quick sale of a 501 they had. I personally flew 300 hours in this airplane in the past 2 years.
I spent hours talking with Don L about this airplane and a stupid amount of money getting everything dialed in. The engines are spot on. Dynamic balance, GAMIs, baffles, and fuel flows.
Regarding the windshield and FIKI, we confirmed and tested the wiring and timer for the hot plate. They are present and working. The only thing missing is the hot plate itself. I was going to put one on the airplane but one of the professionals on BT counseled me against that given the scarcity of windshields. We have flown all over the country in this airplane and I have never had to modify our plan to accommodate a landing where the hot plate was needed.
I think the price point of this airplane provides tremendous value. It’s not a perfect airplane but the price reflects that. I honestly think Mike could get more by parting this out.
