For sale and immediate delivery is likely the nicest 980 in the world. Owned by a Beechtalk member, N9812S has a great history of factory service center maintenance including a substantial $1MM+ upgrade including engine overhauls in 2016.

The 980 has the all around, Swiss army like performance that cannot be matched in a stable, easy to fly and well supported legacy platform.

An honest 1,600 nautical mile range with reserves (6+ hours), 300 knot cruise and the most efficient, lowest cost and most reliable turbine engine in general aviation. Or take 6 people 900 miles. Or up to 9 total on a short haul.

If you are looking to step up to anything less than a CJ3 or KA350, the 980 may be a good fit and deserves consideration.

If you like to look on FlightAware, I have been operating a -10 840 N840DR. N9812S has equal or better performance which I can verify having flown the plane about 15 hours recently.

Fresh pre-buy at Legacy Aviation including 3rd party borescopes.

Offered for $1,595,000

Bruce 309-397-2525

I've flown in this a few times and it is MINT! No expense spared! And with the 7000hr engines, you'll get a lot of flying done before they need O/H...

In fact, here is the trip I took in her a few years back:

I visited this plane to get an introduction into Commanders.
It is no doubt, the finest 980. A new AP would be nice, but otherwise, a real gem.
Bruce didn’t mention baggage space, but the Commanders can carry more than fits in Suburban-L. And almost impossible to get an out of aft CG.

Curious about the gear door STC.
I thought this aircraft had the clamshell doors, and the Owner specifically commented they helped with airframe vibration? Or maybe I’m thinking of a different 980.
Some operators say the doors help with said vibration. . .if your willing to keep up on the rigging.
For my own plane I’m debating putting the doors back on.

Mark - this one does have the doors. I believe we put them back on after the fact so Steve may have good experience with them both on and off. I prefer them on but it is a luxury feature and adds complexity.

When did Commanders become Gulfstream ? I know Gulfstream acquired Astra back in the day, but never knew that Rockwells commanders were also acquired :-)

But if they did - they would be in much greater demand. . . haha

but gorgeous plane. Wish I was in this market. . ..

Commander Jetprops were built by Gulfstream and branded accordingly.
Level at FL450 . . .

Gulfstream  bought a few manufacturers, or their aircraft division, after America recovered from the oil crunch and interest crunch of the 70s. They divested their piston aircraft in 1980, their non G-I turboprop business in 1986 and were focused on large jets. They still maintained their G-I turboprop business in the mid 80s and 90s will still maintain a few outside of Savannah. No turboprops are allowed on the Gulfstream Savannah ramp since 2004 timeframe.

The Aero Commander became the Rockwell Commander and then became a Gulfstream Commander in 1980 until production ceased in 1985 or 1986.

Honestly, Gulfstream was trying to focus on the G-IV back then. Much like Cessna is doing, they saw the $$ in the G-III and G-IV and started divesting themselves of the smaller GA aircraft and acquisitions Grumman American aircraft in 1978/1979 and the old Rockwell aircraft in 1985/1986.

They may have thought that the folks buying these smaller aircraft would move up as their business grew.

One of my partners and I flew to see this aircraft, and if I could get them to move at something other than a glacial pace, this would be ours. Whomever is fortunate enough to be able to make it all work is going to get one HELL of an airplane. It's significantly nicer than the pictures show, and they show the pride of ownership the previous owner clearly had.

That is a LOT of airplane for the money. Performance may best a KA350 if I remember correctly, and at much less fuel burn...no type required, possibly a larger cabin. Any Commander has a sentimental value for me due to R.A. Hoover. I can’t buy it, but I’ll fly it for you.

Which one of the Commander series had the rear toilet/baggage area and they did away with the “power steering” on the nose gear? Was that the 1000?
