Howdy Gang,

I finally decided to register here and will mainly be a lurker... I've been a Mooney owner for a bit over 5 years now, and took the wonderful APS course in 2007 soon after getting my plane. I mainly participate over at mooneyspace.com and the AOPA Forums, but there is a LOT of general knowledge over here so I figured I might as well sign up. I'm glad to see George, Walter and John active here.

I love my Mooney, especially since it fits my mission and more importantly my operational budget perfectly, but I like Bonanzas and many other planes too! I rented a V-tail many years ago and got 10 or 15 hours in it before it left the rental operation. A TN-A36/B36 is an ultimate dream plane for me, but I don't have the need or budget for such a steed right now. :)

I do most of my own wrenching owner-assist style and am a stress engineer in the aircraft industry for my day job, so perhaps I can contribute to some topics from the manufacturer point of view...

Glad to have you here Scott. I owned a Mooney for years and if I wasn't looking for a particular plane right now I would probably get an Acclaim as it is usually just me flying around. But if you stay on this site long enough you will move up to a 36. I loved my 201 but was astonished at the difference between the two.

Again, we welcome you here.

Welcome to Beechtalk, Scott. I came here about 4 months ago because I was tired of debating the merits of 25 square climbs, ROP, and touch and go landingd with 200 hour pilots. The level of airplane IQ is significantly higher here.

Scott, heed the advice above....

I too have recently moved from my trusty M20F of 800 hours to an A36..... this place is dangerous :duck:

Thanks all! I'll see if I can scrounge up some good pics to share soon! I don't use retreads, either. I am by definition *frugal* since I own a Mooney, but I stretch my budget by flying LOP and on-condition maintenance, so I can spend the funds for upgrades. :D (Retreads have some anecdotal trouble in some Mooneys due to clearance issues in the wells...so I don't use them.)

I haven't flown an A36 yet, but I know them to be fine, fine planes. I'm immune to upgrade fever since I don't have the budget to move up. The M20J occupies a real sweet spot in the market in terms of XC travel capability:budget ratio, and to get something measurably better/more capable requires a disproportionate outlay of extra funds. I'm happy with what I've got, for now....

Attempting a pic upload... this is takeoff from a fly-in at Alva, OK last month. Unfortunately the gear didn't get fully retracted before reaching the photographer.

There you go, Scott. You have satisfied us [for the moment] with a wonderful pic. You are now a full-fledged BeechTalk bro, whether you fly one or not.

Welcome. Don't know how you fly around with your tail on backwards, but to each his own. :D
