WOW, guys thanks for fast and warm Welcome.
Great info on this Board. didn't think the ride offers would come so quickly.. Can't take advantage of them until I return stateside in Feb. I should have lots of time here in AFG to do some research til then - provided the Internet is reliable...
Neal - will PM you re. using plane for Biz, and potential tax advantages.
The Baron / C310 prices really make the twins tempting. I'm sure the debate btwn the two could go on forever... The doubled maint and fuel costs almost keep me from looking...almost.
I'll get some stories up if folks are really interested. The C150 I inherited was an incredible experience, after all my MIL experience. I learned alot about flying from that!
Mitch,
Welcome.....
You'll get a ton of advise here, and we will spend your money.
As for the 310 vs Baron, I'm a die hard Baron guy, had three of them, and a LOT of time in other piston twins from 310s to Navajos. The 310R is not a bad plane, and very comparable to the 58 Baron. Both good, but I'd lean toward the Baron, and currently have a 58.
As for the twin costing twice that of a single... just not true. A lot of the costs are the same, like radios, interior, airframe maint is close, hangar, etc. But the engines are double but you'll go a bit faster, too, and have more loading flexibility.
But, you mentioned limited GA experience.... I could strongly argue to get an entry level Bonanza, NA, clean plane that you can fly for a few years, and decide on what you want next. If loads are not a factor, a good late 60s, early 70s V35 is hard to beat. If you need the load, get an A36. Buy one that will have some appeal to the next buyer in about 3 years.
If you can nail down your budget and flight profile, we can sell you more.... <g>.
